Wing T Formation Buck Sweep Play

The Buck Sweep is a great play because it allows you to get your athletes the ball in space. It features down blocks at the point of attack, with the play-side guard pulling and kicking out the edge defender. The backside guard is also pulling, and he is leading blocking. The play-side wing inserts for linebacker.

Wing T Formation Buck Sweep Play Blocking Scheme 

Center: Block backside defensive tackle.

Right Guard: Pull, block contain player. Against the 4-4 it will be the outside backer. Against a 5-3 it would be the stand up defensive end.

Right Tackle: Block down on defensive tackle.

Left Guard: Pull, lead block-block first defender that shows.

Left Tackle: Replace pulling left guard, base defensive tackle.

Tight-end: Down block on defensive end.

Split-end: Stalk block the cornerback.

1: Fake trap to the fullback (2), hand to the 3 coming on the short motion. Carryout fake.

2: Fake trap, fill.

3: Short full speed motion, take handoff cut off of pulling guard’s block.

4: Insert, block middle linebacker.
