Youth Football Split Backs Formation Playbook

The Split Backs Offense Playbook features two tight-ends, one wing-back, and two half-backs. This two tight-end formation presents a lot of problems for the defense. First off, it’s a balanced formation (offensive line is balanced) which forces the defense to have to defend both sides of the formation. They can’t over-shift to one side or else they will get beat to the other side. This formation will give your players several different blocking options- particularly down blocking and double teams (the plays in this playbook utilize both). This is a strong run formation that also gives you great play-action and drop back passing options. This offense will give you a balanced and explosive attack.

Offense Philosophy

Create Misalignment

The double tight-end formation will force the defense to defend both sides of the formation. The wing back will present an alignment issue for the defense because they can’t overload to the wing back side because they still have a TE to the other side. There are basically two strengths with this formation- the wing back / TE flank (stronger strength) and the 3- man surface: guard, tackle, and tight-end side. This is a very difficult formation to align to.

Blocking Angles

This offense will utilize mostly gap run blocking schemes- down blocks with a kick-out of the edge defender. Gap schemes are great because they create great blocking angles on the defense. In addition, the defensive line is taught to look inside and watch the ball- so they won’t even see the down block coming. If you have a great / big offensive line that’s great. If you’re undersized upfront, these gap schemes will give your offensive linemen the ability to wash bigger defensive linemen down. It’s much easier to wash a defender down or block out, than it is to get a vertical push.

Structured Attack

This offense features a series of plays that all complement each other. All the plays in this playbook will set each other up. This offense has plays that will allow you to attack all areas of the field. This playbook will give you an answer for anything the defense comes out in and decides to take away. This offense will give your offense an identity and a legitimate system that you can build around.

Deception

This offense features several counter / deception plays. Deception is the way to go on the youth football level. So many times, defenders will bite on fakes. Having plays that feature deceptive backfield movements will mess with defender eye discipline. Defenders will get caught looking at backfield action and get beat on a play being executed the opposite way.

Simplicity

This offense is easy to install and works extremely well on all age levels of football. It’s easy for the offense to execute, difficult for the defense to defend. You can utilize several different formations and run concepts with minimal teaching.

  1. Coach John

Ran this offense this past season, we lead our league in scoring. It’s a great playbook that will give you a core system of plays. Great for my 9u team. – Central Youth Football and Cheer, FL.

  2. Coach Charley

Installed this offense with my 7th grade middle school team. We had a lot of success running it. The power and counter combination was really good. We also had a lot of good plays calling the counter pass. Includes blocking rules vs. various defenses.

  3. Coach Nick

We ran this offense with my 13u team and we won our league championship. We ran this with their beast formation playbook. It was a great 1-2 punch. Our best play was actually the switch power play. We also hit big with the power pass play. Great playbook. Highly recommend. All of their playbooks are really good.
