The Beast Formation Offense is the most powerful offense in youth football. The Beast Offense will allow you to overwhelm the defense at the point of attack. This offense is easy to install and it is great for all age levels of football.
Direct snapping to your running back will also give you an extra blocker at the point of attack. On this page, we’ll break down what the Beast Formation is and how you can use it to help your team control the line of scrimmage and score more points this season.

What is the Beast Formation Offense?
The Beast Formation Offense is a system that utilizes a direct snap to a running back (or mobile QB) with several blockers leading the way. It’s an offense that creates alignment conflict (for the defense) and gets you multiple blockers at the point of attack.
This is an offense that stems from the Single Wing Offense. Many coaches will consider this offense as a variation of the Single Wing Offense. For us, the biggest difference is that the Beast can also feature a balanced line.
Whereas, the SW will utilize an unbalanced line. The Beast Formation gives you more counter actions, diversity with formations, and a better passing game.
Is the Beast Offense a Gimmick? Does it prepare kids for higher levels of football?
No, the Beast Offense isn’t a gimmick. It’s a dominate offense that will allow you score more points and win more games. Yes, this offense prepares kids for higher levels of football. All the most popular run and passing concepts are executed out of the Beast. The same gap and / or zone schemes that are being utilized in “traditional” offenses & formations are being utilized out of the Beast Offense.
Power is Power, regardless of the formation you run it out of. Inside Zone is IZ, regardless of the formation. Every aspect of offense football is taught in the Beast- everything from run schemes, to proper blocking techniques, to 3-point stance techniques is being taught. Not to mention, many high schools, colleges, and even NFL teams utilize direct snap formations.

Base Formation
In my opinion, the Base Formation is the best formation. It gives you a balanced line with an unbalanced backfield. What this does is it creates alignment conflict for the defense. Most defenses will consider this an unbalanced line and over adjust.
Some defenses won’t adjust at all because the line is balanced. They have to respect the 3-man surface opposite of the back beast backs (3 /4), because you can easily pull / wrap them across to the other side.

This clinic is awesome and it’s free! It provides you with the core plays you should execute out of the Beast Formation. Formation overview, play diagram and game film break down featured.
This video breaks downs how you can win with the Beast Formation (base beast). It provides several different plays and provides you with everything you need to install this offense. It’s a great resource if you’re interested in running the beast.
We also have several YouTube videos on the Beast Offense. Below is a link to our YouTube playlists that has all our Beast / Direct Snap videos.
Heavy Formation
The Beast Heavy formation features an unbalanced line, along with the unbalanced backfield. This is basically just a tackle-over formation. The same plays that you execute out of the Base formation (above) can be executed out of this heavy formation as well. This formation gives the defense a nasty 4-man surface that they have to align to! Below is a great video on how you can utilize the Heavy Formation.
Beast Tank Formation
The beast tank formation is very similar to the base formation. The only difference is that the all three backs are up behind the linemen. This formation will allow you to outnumber and outflank the defense. It will also give you several different blocking options and combinates. Below is a great video breaking down the Beast Tank series.
Beast Wide Formation
The Beast Wide Formation will give you more of a spread look, while still maintaining a strong inside run threat. This formation is very difficult for defenses to align to. Many times the defense will be outnumbered and / or outflanked. The outside run game out of this formation is elite.
In addition, the play-action passing concepts / options are endless. Defenses typically won’t cover all the beast back players (H, F, W). The H and F are almost always open on any outbreaking routes. Check out the video below.
Beast Tight Formation
This tight formation features the two blocking backs tighter inside. The H will go to the left, line up over the LG and the W will go line up to the right, between the TE and RT. This is a great formation to run interior runs out of.
The beast backs (W / H) have great kick out angles and are able to insert on plays like Iso and Lead. This is also a great formation to run inside zone out of. This formation isn’t great for outside plays and the play-action passing is limited to the TEs.
\Beast Spread / Diesel Formation
The Diesel Formation is a nasty formation because it forces the defense to adjust to an unbalanced line and an unbalanced backfield. The formations adds a spread element, while maintaining a very strong run threat inside.
This formation is a great way to pull defenders out of the box and run inside. If the defense doesn’t respect the receivers you can beat them with quick screens and passing concepts. This has been one of the best formations for us the last 4 seasons.
Beast Diamond Formation
The Beast Diamond Formation is a great formation because it is a balanced formation. This formation will force the defense to defend both sides of the formation. This will allow you to get multiple blockers and outnumber the defense at the point of attack.
The backfield alignment will also allow you to utilize different counter and power schemes. There are also 3 eligible receivers (not counting the direct snap player (T)) that you can use on passing routes. It’s a very difficult formation to align to- great for all age levels of football.
Best Passing Plays out of the Beast Formation
The passing game out of this offense is very underrated and under-utilized. The Beast has such a dominate run game- which means the opportunity for play-action passing is huge! Teams will load the box and sellout to stop the run. When defenses do that, that’s when they open themselves up for big play-action passing plays. Watch the video below to see the best passing plays out of the Beast Formation.
Here are the best passing plays out of the beast formation:
Many coaches think the Beast Offense has no passing game. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Since the Beast has such a dominate run game, the play-action passes out of the Beast are very explosive. This offense utilizes a direct snap to your best athletes.
Those athletes are probably very capable of throwing the football as well- so don’t be scared to install and rep some passing plays out of the beast. If the defense knows you can pass out of these formations, that will help the run game.
