Twister Blitz out of the 3-5 Stack Defense

Twister Blitz

The Twister Blitz out of the 3-5 Stack Defense is very difficult for offenses to pick up. This is a blitz we like against 2×2 and 3×1 formations. However, this blitz can be executed with great success against any formation. The offense won’t be able to pick this blitz up and you’ll have at least 2 free rushers. It’s a really nasty blitz.

N: Dip and rip, slant right A-gap. Anchor- don’t get washed down.

RDE: Contain. If there is a running back to his side, he will play peel technique.

LDE: Dip and rip, slant left A-gap. Anchor- don’t get washed. You can have him cheat his alignment down to lessen the distance he has to slant.

L: When QB begins his cadence, L creeps up. When the football is snapped he blitzes off of the edge- he has contain. If he has a running back to his side he will play peel technique.

M: When QB begins his cadence, M creeps up. When the ball is snapped, he will blitz B-gap. Pre-snap he should show that he’s blitzing A-gap. Post snap- he will blitz B-gap, behind the LDE slanting A-gap.

R: Blitz C-gap. You can also have him creep up when the QB begins his cadence.

D: Inside leverage, man coverage on the Y.

D: Inside leverage, man coverage on the S.

Coaching Points

-Make sure all slanting defensive linemen dip and rip. They cannot allow themselves to get washed down.

-Blitzing linebackers should disguise their blitz for as long as they can- don’t give away where they’re blitzing.

-You can play press man or off man- whatever works for your team.

-Peel technique means the contain players will peel off and cover the running back if he swings out to his side.

-This is a great blitz that will pretty much always work. Think about this- how often do coaches practice how to pick up these type of blitz / slants? Not very much, or at all. The Twister Blitz out of the 3-5 Defense is a great blitz that will terrorize offenses and you’re kids will love it. Be sure to focus on the coaching points above if you are going to implement this blitz.
