Off-Set I-Formation Trap Play
This trap play is out of the off-set I formation. This trap play was drawn up with the (4) coming in jet motion. Motion will naturally make the defense widen out (looks like jet sweep). This play will have the most success when the toss play to the (3) back is execute a couple of times. Once you see the defense flowing to the toss, hit them inside with this trap.
Center: Double team the nose guard with the play-side guard. If there is no head up defender, center blocks back-side A defender (fill for pulling guard).
Right Guard: Double team the nose guard with the center. If there is a defender in his inside gap, he must block down on him.
Right Tackle: Release onto Middle Linebacker. Ideally we want the tackle to cross the face of the defensive tackle. But, you want the tackle to take the easiest path to the linebacker.
Left Guard: Pull and trap the defensive tackle. You want to trap the first defender past the right guard. The aiming point of the trap block is the inside hip of the defender the guard is trapping.
Left Tackle: Block defensive tackle.
PSTE: Block outside linebacker. Always secure inside gap first.
BSTE: Secure inside gap. If there is no inside gap defender, TE must release onto linebacker.
1: Open up left, turn and hand the ball off to the (2). You want the QB to fake toss, then hand to the (2) coming inside.
2: Take hand-off and look to cut right off of the guard’s kick-out block and outside of the tackles down block on the middle backer.
3: Fake toss. The (3) must execute a good fake to make the defense flow to the toss.
4: Jet motion across the formation, fake like he is lead blocking on toss. The motion player cannot go forward until the ball is snapped.
