Coverage Beaters in Youth Football

This video breaks down how to beat various coverages. This is a must watch video for spread offense coaches. More than likely you’ll see more than one coverage if you’re a spread team. Important to beat both sides of the field!

Cover 2 beaters included in this video:

Slant-Arrow – hitting the slant over the backer and underneath the safety.

Hitch-Flag – bend flag by inside receiver, against cover 2, the safety will play over top make certain the inside receiver does a quick bend toward the sideline.

Cover-3 beaters:

Hitch-Seam – Vs. Cover 3, hitch zone is always open.

Double-Hitch – if backer starts cheating to the flat, run the double hitch.

Cover 4- beaters:

Slant-Arrow – arrow is always open as there is 4 deep.

Double-Hitch – Outside hitch is open as there are 4 deep.

Man to Man coverage beaters:

Double Slants – look at your best matchup, beat the backer inside. If they take away the inside receiver, throw the slant to the outside receiver.

Rub Routes – inside receiver runs a skinny post, outside receiver two steps up the field, slant inside.

Slant-Seam – outside receiver lines up wide, inside receiver cheats in. Inside receiver runs a seam up the field as the outside runs a slant underneath the seam route.

Most of these coverage beater plays are out of a 6 man protection. Having a 6 man protection will allow for more throwing options. It is also a good idea for spread coaches to have man beaters called to one side and zone beaters called to the other.
