This spread twins g-90 pass play is called when the defense does not respect or adjust out to the spread formation. If the defense loads the box that means one of your receivers will be wide open, or at the very least have a one vs one match up. I have this play drawn up throwing to the slot receiver (4), but you can adjust the play to throw to any of these receivers. This is a quick hitting pass play that needs to be executed accurately.
Center: Pass block backside A-gap defender. If there is a head up offensive linemen, the center must take the nose guard over him.
RG: Inside-over pass blocking.
RT: Inside-over pass blocking.
LG: Inside-over pass blocking.
LT: Inside-over pass blocking.
(R): Run off.
(L): Run off.
(1): Fake two steps up like it is the lead play, then throw to the (4) running right up the seam.
(2): Fake lead blocking, pass block.
(3): Run off.
(4): Fake block, run go route right up the seam. He may have to adjust his path depending on the defense’s alignments.
Coaching Points
- Call this play when the defense doesn’t respect your spread formation.
- The QB (1) needs to take 2 to 3 steps like it is run, then throw to the open receiver.
- You can throw to any of the four receivers, whoever is open or whoever has the best hands.
- The receiver may have to adjust his path so he can get into space. You can have the receiver fake block for a second, then release.
- If you see the defense isn’t aligned properly or isn’t respecting the spread formation, check into a “G-90” and throw the ball to the open receiver. No Huddle.
