QB Counter Play out of Double Tight-end Formation

The QB Counter Play is a great concept because it combines downhill power with backfield deception, putting extra stress on the defense at the point of attack. It can also be executed with a direct snap to a running back, giving you flexibility while keeping the same physical, deceptive look.

QB Counter Play out of Double Tight-end Formation Breakdown

The counter action can pull defenders out of position and create better blocking angles for your offensive line. It’s especially effective once the defense starts overplaying your base runs and flowing too aggressively to the initial backfield action.

Counter plays are one of the best ways to create deception and explosive plays in youth football. By showing the defense action in one direction before attacking the other, counters can slow down aggressive pursuit, manipulate linebackers, and force defenders to stay disciplined with their eyes.
They also create excellent blocking angles for offensive linemen and can help an undersized offense compete against a bigger, faster defense. When counters complement your base runs, the defense can’t simply flow hard to the football- they have to hesitate and respect the misdirection. That hesitation is often all your offense needs to create leverage, get athletes into space, and turn a well-blocked counter into a big play.
