Power Pass Football Play

Power Pass Football Play

This power pass football play is a play-action passing play out of the split-back formation. You could execute this play out of pretty much any formation. This passing play works best after you pound the defense with the power play.  This passing play is basically just a flood concept.  Flood pass plays work well against man to man coverage and vs. zone coverage as well.

Power Pass

Center: Must block any defender over him. If there is no over defender you can have the center double team  with one of the guards.

Right Guard: Always secure inside gap. If there is no inside gap defender, block any defender over (head up).

Left Guard: Always secure inside gap. If there is no inside gap defender, block any defender over (head up).

Right Tackle: Always secure inside gap. If there is no inside aligned gap defender, block any defender over (head up).

Left Tackle: Always secure inside gap. If there is no inside gap defender, block any defender over (head up).

7: Post pattern- break at 8 yards. The 7 must continue his route. If you think the backside defensive end can make a play you can have the 7 pass block instead of running the post.

8: Corner pattern- break at 8 yards. The 8 must continue his route, running away from the heart of the defense. Use the field!

Wing Back (WB): Block the defensive end. Maintain outside leverage and attack the block. The WB cannot let the DE come to him. This is probably the biggest block.

1:  Fake power to the 3 back, drop back and look to hit the corner route. If the corner is not open, throw to the 2 back in the flat. The back side TE (7) will usually be open, especially after you throw the corner route.  If you notice that safety flying out of there, look to hit the 7.

2: Release into the flat. Make sure the 2 back keeps his head up and is able to navigate around players as he gets into the flat. Sometimes the 2 back will release through the inside of the WB’s block. The 2 must also continue his route, use the field.  Run away from the heart of the defense.

3: Fake power, then pass block. The 3 must look to take on any inside leakage. The 2 must aggressive take on any penetrating defenders. You can have the 3 block backside defensive end as well.
