Overload Blitz out of the 53

Overload Blitz out of the 53

This blitz is a very simple blitz to implement. It can be taught and execute on any age level of football. This blitz is designed to send more defenders than the offense can block. This blitz play is very effective because many teams do not have blocking schemes/rules. This play is also a good way to take advantage of weaker offensive linemen.

(N):  Force back side A-gap.

(DT):  Line up on inside shoulder of tackle and force B gap.

(DT):  Line up on inside shoulder of tackle and force B gap. To the TE side sometimes we have our DT line up head up on the offensive tackle.

(DE): Contain.

(DE): Contain.

(L): Blitz C gap. Once the offensive gets set he will then start to creep up.

(M): Blitz A gap. Once the offense gets set he will then start to creep up.

(R): Backside C gap responsibility- then pursuit lane.

(CB): Deep 3rd coverage.

(CB): Deep 3rd coverage.

(S): Deep middle 3rd coverage.

We will play a 3 deep cover 3 when we do an overload blitz. This is because we will not have enough players to play man to man coverage.  If you are playing man to man coverage on this overload you will need to have to safety come down to cover a slot of tight-end.
