The Alabama Blitz is an all out blitz that works very well against spread offenses. This blitz is from a stacked look which will confuse the offensive line. The defensive linemen slant down and the linebackers slant out. This blitz is great because the 3 defensive linemen will occupy all 5 offensive linemen which will give your linebackers a free run. This blitz is very safe because you are only sending 6 defenders. This means you still have 5 defenders committed to pursuit and coverage. This blitz will allow your Sam and Will linebackers to come off the edge very quickly. Your contains players will be your Sam and Will backers.

N: Slant weak side A-gap.
T: Slant B-gap, rip through blocker.
T: Slant B-gap, rip through blocker.
M: Blitz strong side A-gap.
S: Blitz off of the edge. Contain player, must keep outside shoulder free.
W: Blitz off of the edge. Contain player, must keep outside shoulder free.
L: Lock up on slot receiver. Man coverage on # 2.
R: Lock up on slot receiver. Man coverage on # 2.
CB: Man coverage on split-end. Man coverage on # 1.
CB: Man coverage on split-end. Man coverage on # 1 .
FS: Deep middle or running back out of the backfield.
Coaching Points
- Attack on ball movement.
- Maintain stacked look until the ball is snapped. Don’t give away blitz paths pre-snap.
- Linebackers at 2 yards behind the defensive tackles. You don’t want them blitzing from too far back.
- Slanting defensive linemen must dip and rip through the inside shoulder of the guards.
- Slanting defensive linemen must maintain their gap integrity. Don’t give any inside running lanes for the QB.
- When called on to blitz, the defenders need to blitz. No half-hearted blitzes. The kids need to get there!
